New Album Art for Ben LaMay Gay's Yowzers!

Announcing Ben LaMar Gay's upcoming album Yowzers out June 6th, 2025 on International Anthem.

Anyone familiar Ben's work knows that the beautiful sounds you enjoy are just the tip of the iceberg, and to really, deeply, appreciate his music is to listen to it over and over again, to digest its rhythms and lyrics, and find the sonic and narrative "easter eggs" (as Asher likes to calls them), in unexpected moments after you think you've heard everything, once the music has settled in you.

As his partner, I have the unique privilege of a candid behind the scenes look into his process—seeing the music get develop and workshopped, many late night conversation learning the stories—personal, historic, folkloric — that inspire his sounds and his words, and seeing those things get gracefully woven into the fabric of the final product the world gets hear. It's as impressive as it sounds. Ben LaMar Gay is a storyteller. A real poet.

You can always enjoy Ben's albums at first listen, of course, but the magic is that it is a music that keeps on giving after each listen through its depth, should you dare to dive. This album is no different, the many sounds and stories that braid and unfold themselves in Yowzers are inviting you to do just that—go deeper.

The front and back covers respectively feature the flower and the root system of Ipomoea jalapa (or Ipomoea purga) aka John the Conqueror. I did these acrylic paintings on wood panels basically to the scale of the album you'll hold in your hands. The cover art was inspired by the antique scientific drawings, which I love so much. It is always an honor to collaborate with my love! I'm biased but Yowzers is a great album and I cannot wait for you all to hear it in June.
