A.Martinez is a poet, visual artist, mother, and community and arts organizer living in Chicago. She received her BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago's Writing Program in 2009. A.Martinez has been published in LVNG Magazine, Contratiempo, Poiesis, and will release a limited-edition artist book of poetry and drawings, Turn, in 2022. A.Martinez is a proud recipient of the 2019 3Arts Make a Wave Award, and Chicago Artist Coalition's 2021 SPARK grant. Her work explores identity, family, memory, rituals, and the body. 

 

In addition to her creative practice, Alyssa is an arts administrator. She most notably helps produce Chicago’s Pitchfork Music Festival, works as production and development coordinator for three time Grammy-nominated Spektral Quartet, and is development coordinator for Constellation Performing Arts.

 

She also curates social practice events and gatherings that center on and for mothers in the arts  called We, Family and collaborates with Wild Yams: Black Mother Artist Residency and Extended Practice.
